COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISINFECTANT-DETERGENT, GENERAL PURPOSE
(IODOPHOR)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification O-D-1833.
Salient characteristics:
The product shall be a solution containing as active ingredients iodine with a nonionic synthetic detergent.
EPA registration. The product shall be registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a disinfectant suitable for use in hospitals, clinics, or any other medical-related facility. The product shall be labeled with directions for dilution and use. The product and its label shall comply with the Regulations for the Enforcement of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40 Parts 162-180). When used as directed, the product shall be non-staining.
Effectiveness. When used as directed on the label, the use-dilution solution, prepared with hard water containing 400 ppm hardness (as calcium carbonate), shall be:
Bacterial against: Staphycoccus aerus (ATCC No. 6538)
Salmonella cocleraesuis (ATCC No. 10708)
Pseugomonas aeruginosa (ATCC No. 15442)
Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. Bovis (BCG)
Tuberculodical against: Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. Bovis (BCG)
Fungicidal against: Trychophyton mentagopnytes (ATCC No. 9533) and Agenovirus Type A-2
Herpes simplex
Vaccina
Infuenza A2
Effectiveness shall be documented by data from test methods and conditions acceptable under the Environmental Protector Agency (EPA) “ Efficacy Data Requirements and “Confirmatory Data Requirements” DIS’TSS-1-16.
Color. The color of the product shall be amber. There shall be no colorants other than iodine in the product.
Effect on conductive flooring. When conductive flooring which meets the requirements of NFPA Standard No. 56A is washed with the use-dilution of the product and allowed to dry without rinsing, it shall meet the conductivity requirements of NFPA Standard 56A. The issue of NFPA Standard 56A in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification, Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
Note. Purchasers should specify in the contract the size of containers of the product required.
