COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISINFECTANT, GENERAL PURPOSE (QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUND)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers two types of quaternary ammonium chemical disinfectant for use as general purpose disinfectants on non-critical surfaces. This disinfectant is not intended to provide protection against chemical or biological warfare agents.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The quaternary ammonium chemical disinfectant shall be of the following types (see 7.3(b)).
Type I - Free-flowing crystalline powder
Type II - Liquid
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Active ingredients. The chemical disinfectant shall contain no less than 50 percent of the active ingredients, quaternary ammonium compounds.
3.2 Disinfectant effectiveness. The quaternary ammonium chemical disinfectant, when used as directed on the label in a use-dilution solution prepared with hard water containing a minimum
of 400 parts per million (ppm) hardness (as calcium carbonate) and 5 percent (v/v) sterile bovine serum albumin (BSA), shall be effective in accordance with table I.
