COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DEODORANT, GENERAL PURPOSE (CAKES FOR URINALS AND TOILETS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers two types and two grades of deodorant cakes for urinals and toilets.
2. Types and grades.
Type I - Cake, without holder
Type II - Cake, with holder
Grade 1 - Paradichlorobenzene
Grade 2 - Naphthalene
2. Salient Characteristics.
2.1 Ingredients. The grade 1 cakes shall be made of compressed paradichlorobenzene and perfume. The grade 2 cakes shall be made of compressed naphthalene and perfume.
2.2 Weight. The grade 1 cakes shall weight not less than 114 grams (4 ounces). The grade 2 cakes shall weigh not less than 85 grams (3 ounces). (The volumes of the grade 1 and grade 2 cakes are the same.).
2.3 Holder (Type II). The type II cakes shall be provided with a holder (or hanger) to permit the cake to be hung securely from the rim of toilet bowls. The holder shall be made from a material such as aluminum or plastic which will not react with moisture to stain porcelain.
2.4 Wrapper. Each cake shall be completely wrapped and sealed to retard evaporation of the cake before use.
2.5 Non-volatile material. The cakes shall contain no more than 0.5 percent non-volatile material at 105oC.
