COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
INSECTICIDE, DIAZINON, EMULSIFIABLE CONCENTRATE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification 0-1-520.
Intended use.
This Commercial Item Description covers a diazinon emulsifiable concentrate which, when diluted with water, is suitable for use in controlling household, ornamental and lawn insect pests and for application in food and non-food areas. It is also used for crack and crevice treatment in food handling establishments. For specific target pests and application sites, refer to the labeling paragraph below.
Salient characteristics.
The emulsifiable concentrate shall be composed of stabilized diazinon, an aromatic petroleum solvent, and a nonionic emulsifying agent which shall be completely miscible in the finished formulation, and shall have no adverse effects on the diazinon ingredient and shall enable the formulation, when diluted with water, to meet the emulsion stability stated below. The product shall have not less than 47.5 percent by weight of pure diazinon (0, 0 diethyl 0-(2-isopropyl-6-methyl-4-pyrimidinyl)phosphorothioate).
Appearance. The product shall be clear, homogeneous, and free from sediment.
Emulsion stability. The emulsion formed upon dilution of the formulation with hard water shall not exceed 1 mL separation per 100 mL of solution when tested as follows:
Place 98 mL of hard water at 80 + 5°F (27 + 3°C) into a 250 mL beaker and stir mechanically at 1000 RPM using a glass rod stirrer. Add 2 mL of the concentrate from a pipette and continue stirring for 1 minute. Pour the emulsion into a 100 mL glass-stoppered graduated cylinder, and note the time. Examine after 1 hour under strong transmitted light for phase formulation and for sediment. Record by volume.
Flashpoint. The product shal1 have a minimum flashpoint of 100oF (38°C) when tested in accordance with ASTM Method D-56.
