INSECT REPELLENT, PERSONAL APPLICATION, STICK
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
Abstract. The Deet based insect repellent in push-up stick form is for application to human skin to repel mosquitoes, gnats, sticks, stable flies, sand flies, black flies, fleas and chiggers.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
1.1 Description. The insect repellent stick shall contain a minimum of 31 percent by weight of N,N-Diethyl-m-Toluamide (Deet) and 2.0 percent by weight Deet Isomers (o,p), and 67 percent by weight of inert ingredients. The product shall be in push-up stick form.
1.1.1 Base material. The base material may contain a fragrant masking agent for the active ingredients. The product shall not have a rancid odor.
1.1.2 Consistency. The consistency of the product shall be such that its softening point shall be 710C ± 50C when tested in accordance with the “Procedure for Materials Having Softening Points 800C or Below” of ASTM Test Method E28 Softening Point by Ring-and-Apparatus.
1.1.3 Color. The product shall be a light yellow transparent solid gel which leaves no color on the wearer after application to the skin.
